I LIKE THAT | DJANGO DJANGO – STORM
When Splendour In the Grass announces its line up consisting of some of the biggest acts in the world, there’s always a few gems that fall through the cracks and don’t receive the warm reception they so rightfully deserve. This year’s Splendour addition, Django Django, are simply too good to be dealt this fate.
Although being shoved underneath the umbrella of “psychedelic rock”, Django Django manage to go about this labelled with less of a 60s throwback feel than other bands thrown into the genre such as Tame Impala.
The second single off their self-titled debut Storm, is definitely something to wrap your ears around this winter.
Although Storm isn’t as rhythmic as their inaugural single Default, Django Django’s more harmonic and ambient approach towards Storm proves that they are no one trick pony. They manage to create a quality track without drowning it in guitar and synth effects. Rather, attention is directed towards the unique vocal quality of Vincent Neff who drives the band with his commanding guitar sounds that are introduced throughout the course of the track.
If you’re keen to hear more and you’re not making the pilgrimage to Splendour – have no fear! Check out Django Django’s double header with Cast Of Cheers at the Corner on 31st July.
