I LIKE THAT | FOUNTAINEER – ‘STILL LIFE’

We were first introduced to Bendigo outfit, Fountaineer, when they released their hearty single, ‘Grand Old Flags’ early in 2015. Admittedly, it feels like we’ve been waiting forever for a follow up single, but the good news is that the guys have finally returned! Their first release for 2016, ‘Still Life’, definitely carries the spirit of The War On Drugs, with a pulsating drum beat that allows swathes of floating guitars and synths to gradually build up around it as the song progresses. Lead man Anthony White’s muffled baritone, remains quite subdued throughout the track, yet still takes a haunting command – reminding us a lot of The National’s Matt Berninger.

There are talks of a debut album from Fountaineer soon and although ‘Still Life’ doesn’t give too much away just yet, it puts the band in an intriguing position moving forward. Very excited to hopefully hear much more from these guys!
