I WAS THERE | SWIM SEASON @ GASOMETER HOTEL, MELBOURNE, 06/11/15
Collingwood was once again set alight by the excitement that is live local music at the Gasometer Hotel. Swim Season were releasing their debut EP Cascades with the help of the local Alex Lahey and Geelong’s Residual.
Right from the word go Swim Season had the sold out Gas jumping. After having spent more than 6 months away from full live shows, they were absolutely bursting with energy that had for some time been contained to the studio. Front man James belted out each song as he moved across stage with the rest of the team dancing with him. Nelson is the most fun bass player in town to watch as he gets into every song with unparalleled enthusiasm. With Jono on the drums, Matt on guitar and Dani on keys this five-piece have everything an indie-pop band needs and more.
Every single song was a party and the tightly packed dance floor was evidence of that. Some joined in on the tracks they knew but everyone danced along with a liveliness that words do not do justice. ‘Sweetheart’ was a particular highlight, alongside fresh tracks from the EP like “Flicker” and “Soldiers”. The video for “Soldiers” continued Swim Season’s run of stunning productions when it was revealed just on Wednesday.
It was a big week for the band and the start of a strong finish for the year. Heading up to Sydney to play a show later in the month, they are returning to Victoria to give Geelong a dose of their world in December.
Still young and with a lot to offer, Swim Season won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, so keep an eye out for them and do everything you can to see them live.
