SOUTHBOUND 2016 CANCELLED DUE TO BUSHFIRES

Unfortunately, overnight, organisers of Perth’s Southbound announced that the 2016 festival will not take place, due to high risk bushfire warnings. After attempting to enforce a total fire ban and arrange alternate driving routes to the festival, Southbound director David Chitty concluded that the safest option was to cancel the festival overnight.
In a statement on  Facebook, Chitty said: “After ongoing communications and information provided from the West Australian Police, Main Roads Department and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, we have no option but to cancel this year’s event. We cannot compromise patron safety and proceed knowing people’s lives are at risk getting to the event… The fire, which started Wednesday afternoon and reached emergency status during the night and into Thursday morning, has left us with no time to relocate prior to gates opening tomorrow.”

Southbound 2016 was set to feature the likes of Foals, The Wombats, Courtney Barnett, Bloc Party, Disclosure, Kurt Vile & more.
Our thoughts go out to all involved with Southbound – it is never easy cancelling something that you’ve put your absolute heart and soul into. Looking forward to their return in 2017. Full Twitter statement below:
