TRACK OF THE WEEK | ALEX LAHEY – YOU DON’T THINK YOU LIKE PEOPLE LIKE ME

One of the brightest talents in Melbourne Alex Lahey has released her second single ‘You Don’t Think You Like People Like Me’. The songwriter and proud 1999 Toyota Corolla owner has been hard at work recording her debut EP, with ‘YDTYLPLM’ the latest offering of what is shaping up to be one of the most exciting releases of 2016.

Lahey’s ability to write lyrics loaded with ideas and words is truly admirable and a talent that makes her comparable to the likes of Courtney Barnett. The line “Maybe I’m the one expectation that could last forever, but that could only happen if you let us be together” stood out upon my first listen and perfectly captures the essence of the song. While the track is angst-laden and a tale of frustration, Lahey and her band manage to turn these feelings into a upbeat number that is proving to be impossible to get out of my head.

Based off the reviews the song’s been getting so far it’s clear Lahey is a musician that quickly makes a positive impression. As a long time fan I can definitely attest to this, having approached Lahey to sing her praises after playing a community kite festival back in 2011 with her band Animaux. 16 year old me was on the money and it’s amazing to see the love she’s been getting so far.

Make sure you catch Alex Lahey at one of her upcoming shows before she blows up and sell out venues left, right and centre.
