TRACK OF THE WEEK | SAN MEI – ‘REVEL’
Gold Coast native San Mei (aka Emily Hamilton) has just released new single Revel. Although her previously releases ‘Wars’ and ‘Brighter’ garnered the attention and praise of NME, Indie Shuffle and Nylon Magazine, Hamilton appears to have kept a relatively low profile- Revel is her first release since April 2015. The time spent honing her craft has obviously benefited Hamilton. Lush, dreamy and dark, Revel is a gem of a track, and for loyal San Mei fans, well worth the wait. Whereas previous releases were self produced and came straight from San Mei’s bedroom, this track sees the electro-pop musician progressing to the studio. Revel has been produced by Emily and Sean Cook, (Babaganouj, Jungle Giants), and mastered by Ben Feggans (Rüfüs, Ngairre, Willow Beats, The Kite String Tangle and Dustin Tebbutt). Featuring fuzzy synths, hazy guitars and Hamilton’s lush vocals, Revel is at once warm and eerie.
Whereas the few and far between nature of San Mei’s releases could be risky in today’s clickbait infested internet environment, her fans continue to take interest, many taking to her social media accounts to express their excitement about her new release. Here is hoping her relative radio silence will mean a slew of more fantastic synth pop tracks are on their way.
